Sheryl and Sherry: fosters 2 &3 </div>
<br />
Sweet sisters too small to play with poor Winston... they were too scared of their big foster brother- but they were fantastic lap puppies- which puts a smile on my face :) Winston's feelings weren't too hurt as long as his mommy took him for some special mommy and me time at the dog park! <br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Sheryl and Sherry are 6 month old female terrier mix puppies who were rescued from down South. We were lucky enough to help them with their journey to their forever home! <br />
<br />
Having 2 fosters along with Winston and of course Lincoln and Lola- well let's just say the husband was thinking we lived at a zoo! (which I know that this does not qualify us as zookeepers- I grew up with 3 cats, 1 dog, 2 hamsters, 2 rabbits, 2 mice, and 2 guinea pigs) <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-clqi5b3QY_I/UGJNXQtMkyI/AAAAAAAAEXA/jEPkcCxfUZk/s1600/IMAG1163.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-clqi5b3QY_I/UGJNXQtMkyI/AAAAAAAAEXA/jEPkcCxfUZk/s640/IMAG1163.jpg" width="382" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Having 2 foster dogs was never talked about- it just kind-a happened....It was a transition for me to learn how to walk all THREE dogs at the same time. I'm sure my neighbors were looking at me and thinking I was a crazy person the first few times I did it- crazy dogs with tangled leashes :) But with some time and teaching- we were down to walking all three leashes in one hand (with the other hand free to carry all three poop bags of course- yuck!) <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xdG9eOR3uAE/UGJNU9bb6UI/AAAAAAAAEWw/DMP5BBelqK8/s1600/IMAG1167.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="382" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xdG9eOR3uAE/UGJNU9bb6UI/AAAAAAAAEWw/DMP5BBelqK8/s640/IMAG1167.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Sheryl and Sherry were only with us for a short time- a little over a week. The 2 lucky ladies found a wonderful woman who recently lost her beagle and who was looking for a smaller pup to cuddle with... well she found TWO to cuddle with! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I was thrilled the girls went together to their furever home- because they were attached at the hips! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Oh my is summer really over?! I feel like it just started. I did not get nearly HALF of the things done that I wanted to- which always makes you feel a bit disappointed... with the house and working part time I didn't have enough free time to focus on my hobbies like sewing/playing piano/crafting! All of my crafting/creative energy went into painting rooms and deciding where things should be placed/hung. It's fun- but I'd much rather be creating other things. <br />
<br />
Another task that has been taking up some of my energy is fostering/volunteering. This takes an enormous amount of time and dedication- but the rewards are priceless :)<br />
<br />
Meet Hope...she is a 1 year old female - thought to be some sort of terrier mix. She was a happy, go lucky gal who was a lil' shy- but willing to go out on a limb from time to time! She warmed up quickly- but was still a reserved lady. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ja-MPcPKzGk/UESiVFSPvuI/AAAAAAAAEV0/0yrmT1VQTAs/s1600/IMAG1035.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="382" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ja-MPcPKzGk/UESiVFSPvuI/AAAAAAAAEV0/0yrmT1VQTAs/s640/IMAG1035.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
She honestly did not possess one bad quality- well maybe her CRAZY hair!!! haha I brushed her and bathed her and it seemed that nothing would tame those unruly locks of hers!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-87IR7sYNzBM/UESgsif_HqI/AAAAAAAAEVo/ufoR2TLW0Cc/s1600/IMAG1058.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-87IR7sYNzBM/UESgsif_HqI/AAAAAAAAEVo/ufoR2TLW0Cc/s640/IMAG1058.jpg" width="382" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
She fit in perfectly with our little family. So much so...it was almost impossible to let her go! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eoCQD3cz1S8/UESiZbnV4qI/AAAAAAAAEV8/vtPEjYDSRBE/s1600/hope.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="423" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eoCQD3cz1S8/UESiZbnV4qI/AAAAAAAAEV8/vtPEjYDSRBE/s640/hope.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
The only reason I was able to give her up was because my best friends mom was adopting her. Which means I get to visit with her as often as needed :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CoBVJVQSQoM/UESglSeRX5I/AAAAAAAAEVQ/zmci44q0exM/s1600/1343682803448.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CoBVJVQSQoM/UESglSeRX5I/AAAAAAAAEVQ/zmci44q0exM/s640/1343682803448.jpg" width="294" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I'm so thankful Hope was apart of our lives! Even if it was only temporary.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-68WIKv5vf-k/UA4CXrsuYuI/AAAAAAAAEUU/DTfR-m0CD7o/s1600/IMAG0993.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="382" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-68WIKv5vf-k/UA4CXrsuYuI/AAAAAAAAEUU/DTfR-m0CD7o/s640/IMAG0993.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br /><br />
I'm so excited, busy, overwhelmed, happy, and thankful! We have officially moved in. Phew... that was the hardest move yet (each time we accumulate more c-r-a-p!)We are pretty much unpacked, but are still finding out what works best where and I'm sure we'll move things around 8 times before we figure it all out. I still have yet to hang up anything- no pictures/artwork/decorations....I really want to take my time setting up the house and don't want to jump the gun on anything (although I'm planning my hubbies 30th bday party at the house so it DOES need to be done by September). I have been keeping busy taking care of our 1 acre yard, painting, furniture shopping, working part time (as a nanny), and volunteering! Oh and.... being a puppy mom!! I'm thrilled to announce we have officially adopted a puppy :-) <br />
<br />
Meet Sir Winston....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eWREMdPSCZk/UA4CUKLGGbI/AAAAAAAAET8/ePBegaDV84E/s1600/IMAG0930.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="382" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eWREMdPSCZk/UA4CUKLGGbI/AAAAAAAAET8/ePBegaDV84E/s640/IMAG0930.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This summer I started volunteering with a local no-kill animal rescue organization called <a href="http://www.all4pawsrescue.com/"><span style="font-size: large;">All 4 Paws</span></a>- where I help out with puppy bathes, cleaning kennels, working adoption events, and fostering! Hence, our newest addition. You know you can't foster your first puppy and not keep him ;-)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SWItwwnZTzs/UA4CV0t91YI/AAAAAAAAEUE/u3I71E79gN0/s1600/IMAG0937.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="382" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SWItwwnZTzs/UA4CV0t91YI/AAAAAAAAEUE/u3I71E79gN0/s640/IMAG0937.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br /><br />
Well it did help that he was an amazing dog who is extremely laid back and easy going- he fit right in! He started off extremely shy- but has slowly opened up and his personality is the cutest. He came in not knowing how to go up the stairs or play with a toy :-( But with a little bit of patience and love he is learning and having a blast. He now knows how to sit, stay, and come! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dKoru-oXk4I/UA4CXERki8I/AAAAAAAAEUM/-f5ezvxJCWA/s1600/IMAG0974.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dKoru-oXk4I/UA4CXERki8I/AAAAAAAAEUM/-f5ezvxJCWA/s640/IMAG0974.jpg" width="382" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Since he's a rescue pup his heritage/age is unknown, but we guess he is about 6 months old and a shar-pei, lab, pointer mix. The cats have adjusted well- Lola could care less about him- but Lincoln still hisses and warns Winston to not come too close-but in time I'm sure they'll be cuddle friends. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HBIWLJfYOPg/UA4CaEo_4sI/AAAAAAAAEUk/5kXQsq5Fgs4/s1600/winston+and+toy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HBIWLJfYOPg/UA4CaEo_4sI/AAAAAAAAEUk/5kXQsq5Fgs4/s640/winston+and+toy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
There's something special about a rescue animal- somehow they know you've rescued them and they are forever thankful. We are expecting our next foster dog this weekend and I will keep you posted how he/she adjusts to our family :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Settlement is right around the corner! Ever since we found our house I've been surfing the Internet coming up with ideas for our new space :) I've even created a document with pictures and links to all of the furniture I want to buy! Crazy...I know...<br />
<br />
I've been sitting on my wallet for the last month and a half because "I'm not allowed to buy anything for the new house until we actually HAVE the keys in our hands!" :-(<br />
<br />
I get the whole "you never know" thing, but seriously it's torture! So in the meantime...here's some inspiration...<br />

Today is our 3rd wedding anniversary :-) We're lucky enough to be back in the same area we had our wedding, so we were able to have a sentimental dinner at the same restaurant we had our rehearsal dinner! The <a href="http://www.dulingkurtz.com/restaurant/">Duling Kurtz</a>.....a beautiful inn located 5 minutes from where we live. <br />

I can't believe we've been married for 3 years already....isn't this when the "honeymoon" phase is over?! Not sure what that means...I remember when we were moving in with each other right after college graduation- everyone said that this was when things would start getting tough and the fighting would begin. But call me crazy- I thought moving in with each other was a simple, smooth transition. There was no 'getting used to' each other or any other crazy, quirky things either of us had to adjust to. It was just simple. And that's been consistent....here we are 6 years later- 3 years married, and things are still running smoothly :-) and we're still in our 'honeymoon phase' <3<br />

<br />
This past weekend we had our school's annual fundraising event...the Spring Fling. This is the only fundraising we do- so you can imagine that we go ALL OUT!! The parents donate all sorts of items to make this night possible. Everything from the country club rental, to silent auction baskets, to live auction items. This years theme was the Kentucky Derby and derby attire was 'encouraged'!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uR8DEiL54IA/T6hgw9PQkjI/AAAAAAAAESs/E3G7xd6vhiY/s1600/DSC09043.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="470" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uR8DEiL54IA/T6hgw9PQkjI/AAAAAAAAESs/E3G7xd6vhiY/s640/DSC09043.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
You know what that means- crafting time. I had to make sure I had a chic hat to match my chic dress...my chic dress I borrowed that is- because with the new home purchase- frivolous spending has been put to a hault! (thanks dear)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TsTBSKLd6xo/T6hgs7iBOyI/AAAAAAAAESc/VYgxAfesr20/s1600/DSC09037.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TsTBSKLd6xo/T6hgs7iBOyI/AAAAAAAAESc/VYgxAfesr20/s640/DSC09037.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
I scoured the internet for inspiration...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sd2Udbjp-1A/T6hclmoncWI/AAAAAAAAESQ/LElohIhkxDM/s1600/Recently+Updated.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sd2Udbjp-1A/T6hclmoncWI/AAAAAAAAESQ/LElohIhkxDM/s640/Recently+Updated.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />made a few trips to Michael's and JoAnn's with my dress in tow...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SBB7jgtnUDk/T6hgvl0r6ZI/AAAAAAAAESk/1H_bdaflt2I/s1600/DSC09041.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SBB7jgtnUDk/T6hgvl0r6ZI/AAAAAAAAESk/1H_bdaflt2I/s640/DSC09041.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
and voila beautiful derby hat emerged! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0-ubCHwrwTU/T6hg0CWgjTI/AAAAAAAAES8/cPPVGmnyr1g/s1600/DSC09053.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0-ubCHwrwTU/T6hg0CWgjTI/AAAAAAAAES8/cPPVGmnyr1g/s640/DSC09053.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I used black, teal, and gold feathers along with a peacock feather and some black ribbon. I arranged the feathers into a decorative bunch and used the ribbon to make a few added details. I stitched a running stitch and pulled the thread- gathering the ribbon. Then sewed the ends together making a little flower-like detail. I then folded the ribbon a few times (like a waterfall) and glued the ends to make another decorative feature for the hat. I looked for some black netting to add- but had a hard time finding it in my time crunch (I decided last minute that I was going to make my own hat!). But in the end I was satisfied :-)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-W9iCU7PAGQs/T6hgyWl_SNI/AAAAAAAAES0/EqZ8d8xc658/s1600/DSC09052.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-W9iCU7PAGQs/T6hgyWl_SNI/AAAAAAAAES0/EqZ8d8xc658/s640/DSC09052.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
On a not so happy note- our school has had a break out of the rotovirus- so the next few days will be spent with a closed school and tons of bleach! We are all going in to clean and sanitize EVERYTHING and those of you who know Montessori know that there are thousands of teeny, tiny objects/materials to get to. It's a big job...wish me luck!Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12047189779749808846noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8396057049040895340.post-21678290788714506402012-04-16T17:12:00.000-07:002012-04-16T17:12:44.172-07:00terrariums and such<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iWoSSStbS5A/T4yzyR0CtGI/AAAAAAAAER4/hTzz8R_up54/s1600/terrariums.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="382" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iWoSSStbS5A/T4yzyR0CtGI/AAAAAAAAER4/hTzz8R_up54/s640/terrariums.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />
So it's been a bit since I've stopped by (I wonder how many of my posts start off with this statement?!)- but I assure you I'm still around, alive and doing well :-) Truth of the matter is we're doing really well- we finally found a house and are waiting for settlement!!! It was a looooong 6 months of hunting but well worth it. It will be another long 3 months of waiting for settlement but at least there is light at the end of the tunnel. <br />
<br />
In the meantime I have been busy wrapping up the school year and trying to fit in tidbits of craftiness along the way....<br />
<br />
We celebrated"Father's Day"- well I actually came down with that awful stomach bug the day before and was out of commission for the celebration and the 2 days after... but I heard it was wonderful :)<br />
<br />
We finished studying animals in winter and moved to study the red-tailed hawk along with celebrating St. Patrick's Day. (I took plenty of pictures and had every intention of sharing- but time got the best of me!)<br />
<br />
I finished up my last round of P/T conferences and am on the home stretch to graduation!<br />
<br />
<br />
As for home life- Steve and I have stumbled upon an amazing outdoor/indoor garden studio that we adore.... called <a href="http://www.shopterrain.com/">Terrain at Styer's</a>. If you like anthropologie- you'd LOVE terrain! They are a bit pricey- but it's a great place to get ideas.... and...if you find stuff on sale it's a pretty good deal. I've collected a few things since our initial love connection...<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GocChX5KpNM/T4yzlrCZRdI/AAAAAAAAERI/Cf5BI9Gep8g/s1600/DSC09006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GocChX5KpNM/T4yzlrCZRdI/AAAAAAAAERI/Cf5BI9Gep8g/s640/DSC09006.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br />
This soap dish I paid full price for- but fell in love with it at first sight! It's going to look wonderful in my powder room :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0MAbBElcnRo/T4yz3rcGJUI/AAAAAAAAESA/pg6Hb-BacGA/s1600/other.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0MAbBElcnRo/T4yz3rcGJUI/AAAAAAAAESA/pg6Hb-BacGA/s640/other.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />
This cow door stop I bought online on sale and it is truly sublime! It's wrought iron and has a family of cows on it- so me!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dlfz9LYC3yw/T4yzx6EoDYI/AAAAAAAAERw/p1bniqWkQbI/s1600/tear+drop.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dlfz9LYC3yw/T4yzx6EoDYI/AAAAAAAAERw/p1bniqWkQbI/s640/tear+drop.jpg" width="560" /></a></div><br />
This wall hanging tear drop terrarium I bought at full price- but it was totally affordable and adds a peaceful aura to our living space. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-reYtqh7CZ0o/T4yzri5ewII/AAAAAAAAERY/55fuhxhgXTI/s1600/DSC09013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-reYtqh7CZ0o/T4yzri5ewII/AAAAAAAAERY/55fuhxhgXTI/s640/DSC09013.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-w5-28kHb5IA/T4yznIBxoAI/AAAAAAAAERQ/9EgnsicdM8I/s1600/DSC09010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-w5-28kHb5IA/T4yznIBxoAI/AAAAAAAAERQ/9EgnsicdM8I/s640/DSC09010.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br />
These terrariums Steve and I made! So cool right?! We took a terrarium workshop this past weekend and it was such a fun, funky date-day activity. He made the one with the woodland plants and I made the one with the succulents. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7DT7if1HAEk/T4yztJGcdNI/AAAAAAAAERg/Po3uU9UPilI/s1600/DSC09024.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7DT7if1HAEk/T4yztJGcdNI/AAAAAAAAERg/Po3uU9UPilI/s320/DSC09024.JPG" width="240" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0uQsHHWVuJ8/T4yzvpG84MI/AAAAAAAAERo/_JkmxWgiq1U/s1600/DSC09030.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0uQsHHWVuJ8/T4yzvpG84MI/AAAAAAAAERo/_JkmxWgiq1U/s320/DSC09030.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
Creating terrariums is so addicting- I want to make another one! Stay tuned as I plan to have a terrarium workshop party this summer after we settle in to our new home <3 <br />

Winter is practically over and I'm just getting around to writing this post!!<br />
<br />
In our school we change over our room each month- we change the materials based on our theme and the season. For the month of Feb. we did Valentine's Day and Animals in Winter/Hibernation. This month we're doing the Red Tailed Hawk and St. Patrick's Day (and we're also celebrating Father's Day- since we're not in school when it's the REAL Father's Day). I'm hoping to post March's theme in the month of March- but I can't make any promises ;-)<br />
<br />
So, last month, this is what we did for "animals in hibernation"...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-v2MyGxCBuYM/T11N9EzgsXI/AAAAAAAAEQI/6VTQ5wDlXtU/s1600/P1000721.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-v2MyGxCBuYM/T11N9EzgsXI/AAAAAAAAEQI/6VTQ5wDlXtU/s640/P1000721.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Black bear handprints</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-B1E00XdbPfA/T11PPYXkmgI/AAAAAAAAEQQ/MBr4WvNP_GU/s1600/P1000734.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="459" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-B1E00XdbPfA/T11PPYXkmgI/AAAAAAAAEQQ/MBr4WvNP_GU/s640/P1000734.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Animals Hibernating matching cards: </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This is a work that I made because.... frankly- I didn't have ANYTHING on animals in hibernation! I found pictures of animals on the Internet and then a picture of that animal in hibernation. I then wrote up a little snippet of information so that when presenting this work I can read it to the child. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-I2GaBt3Vkic/T11PWhx-d5I/AAAAAAAAEQg/5nNBzj12nFw/s1600/P1000739.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="420" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-I2GaBt3Vkic/T11PWhx-d5I/AAAAAAAAEQg/5nNBzj12nFw/s640/P1000739.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Mk24sXkJUwg/T11Paf48aCI/AAAAAAAAEQo/HG0hHHDqHj0/s1600/P1000740.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="486" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Mk24sXkJUwg/T11Paf48aCI/AAAAAAAAEQo/HG0hHHDqHj0/s640/P1000740.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-o0QSQt9QkgE/T11PffmNeiI/AAAAAAAAEQw/1we1FFAa97M/s1600/P1000741.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-o0QSQt9QkgE/T11PffmNeiI/AAAAAAAAEQw/1we1FFAa97M/s400/P1000741.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div align="center"><em>(I apologize for the glare!)</em></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IO04rzJPUM4/T11PTegthTI/AAAAAAAAEQY/h_J0dEoRui0/s1600/P1000736.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="366" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IO04rzJPUM4/T11PTegthTI/AAAAAAAAEQY/h_J0dEoRui0/s640/P1000736.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Footprints of Animals in Winter:</div><div style="text-align: center;">This is a work that my school had- but I beefed it up a bit. Originally it was just pictures of the animal footprints- but I thought adding a second set of cards with the actual picture of that animal will make this work more stimulating and more educational. Below is a picture of a booklet that the children can make after they match the animal with the footprint.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vkllOYymGtg/T11PqNNehlI/AAAAAAAAERA/YcCRftg5DsE/s1600/P1000738.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vkllOYymGtg/T11PqNNehlI/AAAAAAAAERA/YcCRftg5DsE/s640/P1000738.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">And last, but not least a song that we sung in circle (which I heard many times during the day- the children loved it so much they sung it ALL the time!) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

Busy, busy, busy... <br />
<br />
I can't seem to keep up with all that I want to do! And... I don't even have kids yet or a house to take care of. I don't understand how some people do it....<br />
<br />
I was talking with my Mom today- complaining about how hectic things have been lately and she told me "Life is busy, that's just how it is"<br />
<br />
so...I'm going to have to learn how to prioritize what is important and learn how to let go of what isn't<br />
<br />
A small recap of what I've been doing...<br />
<br />
<ul><li>celebrating my birthday (which is usually a week long celebration- however this year was leap year- so I got to celebrate on the actual day!)</li>
<li>taking care of my sweet Lincoln who had 3 visits to the vet all due to an eye infection that was tricky to diagnose</li>
<li>sewing some treasures for a baby shower </li>
<li>making my favorite nephew something special for his 2nd birthday</li>
<li>keeping up with my 20 kids @ school</li>
<li>piano lessons (in 2nd month of classes and loving them!)</li>
<li>and.... still looking for a house :)</li>
</ul>Hope to catch up with all that's been going on in the classroom later this week.<br />

<br />
here's how we're celebrating Valentine's Day in the classroom...<br />

So we've made the move and things have started to settle down. Everything went smoothly, we had beautiful weather, and the best thing- we had enough room for all of our stuff!! Downsizing from a single family home with 1300+ sqft to a 2 BR 900 sqft apartment was a bit scary and I was doubting that all of our things were going to fit! One BR is stocked FULL of boxes and randoms- literally floor to ceiling! (I'd show you a picture- but it is NOT a pretty sight and every time I open that door I get a waft of anxiety) I'd say we only unpacked 1/5 of our stuff. The other 4/5 is packed and stacked in our "storage room". I was pretty stingy when packing up our 'open now boxes' and wish I would have kept out a few more things- I have to run the dishwasher often so that we have enough dishes and I'm really missing my aero-latte!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
As for our aparment- it is actually quite cute! We weren't looking for something long term so we didn't really have many requirements- but I'm pretty satisfied with our choice. The living room is a nice size and it has adorable pale yellow walls with thick crown molding. There is also a big window ledge in the front room that is perfect for my plant collection. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-N57u7XbRxeM/T0LzwleSKZI/AAAAAAAAEN4/SKBrAvUKDQw/s1600/DSC08995.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-N57u7XbRxeM/T0LzwleSKZI/AAAAAAAAEN4/SKBrAvUKDQw/s640/DSC08995.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0SXRnGR7htM/T0Lz0t_MVoI/AAAAAAAAEOQ/I4wy3mU_z90/s1600/DSC09005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0SXRnGR7htM/T0Lz0t_MVoI/AAAAAAAAEOQ/I4wy3mU_z90/s640/DSC09005.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br />
The bathroom and kitchen are tiny but Steve and I are learning how to dosey do around eachother when trying to fill up our mugs and get out the door in the morning. And we are learning how to deal with the kitties waking us up at the crack of dawn wanting to play!!!! I feel bad that they don't have a whole lot of space to run around when feeling friskie- but I just have to remind myself that this is only temporary! So far no luck on the house hunting end- but I think come March more things will pop up on the market (fingers crossed)<br />
<br />
Hope you had a wonderful weekend <3<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_PgdugEni94/T0Lzx3YIicI/AAAAAAAAEOA/4uDWESQbl-4/s1600/DSC08996.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="398" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_PgdugEni94/T0Lzx3YIicI/AAAAAAAAEOA/4uDWESQbl-4/s640/DSC08996.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br />
Oh and here's a little sneak peak at a new adventure I'm pursuing...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EcG3h0WWADY/T0LzzkOAoDI/AAAAAAAAEOI/r0ktRnQ7_mQ/s1600/DSC09000.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EcG3h0WWADY/T0LzzkOAoDI/AAAAAAAAEOI/r0ktRnQ7_mQ/s640/DSC09000.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12047189779749808846noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8396057049040895340.post-15376665624710378432012-02-07T18:08:00.000-08:002012-02-07T18:08:43.932-08:00the mitten: a sequence story<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-h2BvZAnS4Cc/TzHRDgzw3uI/AAAAAAAAENI/Ybu_L5Q39CU/s1600/P1000596.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="546" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-h2BvZAnS4Cc/TzHRDgzw3uI/AAAAAAAAENI/Ybu_L5Q39CU/s640/P1000596.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
So I must admit that this is not my idea, nor do I have it in my classroom! <em>(although next year I will)</em><br />
I love walking around my school and peaking inside every one's room to see what they're up to and I happened to stumble upon this great idea in my friends classroom. <br />
<br />
It's a sequencing work that goes along with the children's book <a href="http://compare.ebay.com/like/270898350356?var=lv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar">The Mitten</a> by: Alvin Tresselt. <em>(there is also one written by Jan Brett)</em><br />
<br />
What you'll need:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-K06VElec6dk/TzHHLguAx0I/AAAAAAAAELI/WDofwBjaH9s/s1600/the+mitten.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-K06VElec6dk/TzHHLguAx0I/AAAAAAAAELI/WDofwBjaH9s/s640/the+mitten.jpg" width="528" /></a></div><br />
<br />
You can introduce this work in a small group....read each page and then act it out using the objects...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-inOKliUSKls/TzHIp6roygI/AAAAAAAAELw/rOXtK3Hc9RU/s1600/P1000573.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-inOKliUSKls/TzHIp6roygI/AAAAAAAAELw/rOXtK3Hc9RU/s640/P1000573.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The first page introduces the boy as he walks through the forest gathering wood- you can then take the little boy and gather the twigs onto his sled...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QhMAI4o-SRQ/TzHK5Rwu08I/AAAAAAAAEL4/Z82K2Kv6dp0/s1600/P1000558.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QhMAI4o-SRQ/TzHK5Rwu08I/AAAAAAAAEL4/Z82K2Kv6dp0/s640/P1000558.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Oops the boy dropped his mitten... </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><em><strong>"Now, how a boy could do this on the coldest day of winter I'll never know, but that's the way my grandfather tells the story."</strong></em></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It goes through a sequence where a variety of forest animals come across this cozy mitten and squeeze their way in...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-50Jbc0X4RwA/TzHHS3iFTaI/AAAAAAAAELY/hheERimMm8k/s1600/the+mitten2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="466" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-50Jbc0X4RwA/TzHHS3iFTaI/AAAAAAAAELY/hheERimMm8k/s640/the+mitten2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><em>(as the book progresses- add each animal to the mitten as it's introduced)</em></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">and just when you think there is no more room...</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><strong><em>""No room! No Room!" cried the animals even before the bear had a chance to speak. </em></strong></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><strong><em>"Nonsense!" said the bear. "There's always room for one more."</em></strong></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><strong><em>And without so much as a please or thank you, he began crawling into the mitten. </em></strong></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><strong><em>He put his paw in first, and the mitten creaked and groaned.</em></strong></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><strong><em>He put his other paw in, and one of the seams popped. </em></strong></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><strong><em>Then he took a deep breath and pushed himself in."</em></strong></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ufVk_WM1Q0I/TzHN9XGtfFI/AAAAAAAAEMg/Q2rqwiEpiSI/s1600/Collages.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="544" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ufVk_WM1Q0I/TzHN9XGtfFI/AAAAAAAAEMg/Q2rqwiEpiSI/s640/Collages.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">and last but not least- one tiny little cricket... and RIP- the mitten explodes!</span> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1L0hjhvGw40/TzHODELLUSI/AAAAAAAAEMw/3ZXERwCtXns/s1600/the+mitten6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="396" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1L0hjhvGw40/TzHODELLUSI/AAAAAAAAEMw/3ZXERwCtXns/s640/the+mitten6.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><span style="font-family: inherit;">The animals get thrown about in the snow and all that remains are the bits and pieces of the boys mitten... </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;">....the boy realizes he lost his mitten, but by the time he comes back for it...it's too late!</span><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><strong><em><span style="font-family: inherit;">"And my grandfather says he never did know what really happened to his mitten."</span></em></strong></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
It's an adorable story and an even more adorable work! It's amazing to watch the children actually act out the whole story- in correct sequence :-)<br />
<br />
have a wonderful week <3<br />

Just wanted to share with you a little project we've been working on in the classroom. I got the idea from a fellow Montessori teacher at my school and thought it was a great project for cold and flu season! Sewing "hanky holders" - a cute way of saying tissue holders! <br />
<br />
All you need is felt, craft thread, scissors, a needle, and tissues! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-stOknSdfHtU/TynDOSoxFaI/AAAAAAAAEKQ/8Beb0G1JneE/s1600/P1000533.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-stOknSdfHtU/TynDOSoxFaI/AAAAAAAAEKQ/8Beb0G1JneE/s640/P1000533.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Pictured above is how I presented this work on the shelf (there is 1 for each child in the class). It was a lot of prep work- but the outcome was so cute and the children really loved it- which makes it all worth it! (they carry them around in their pockets- always prepared for a runny nose) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I cut rectangles of felt out with pinking shears and then a small heart (for their initials)...</div><br />

So... the snow fairies were looking over me and a few days after my winter post- it SNOWED!! It was on a Saturday...and it's all melted already...but I'll take it! It was a nice backdrop to our day stuck inside finishing up the rest of our packing! Yes, we're still packing because we still haven't moved. This will be our 4th time moving so it's safe to say we're kind of "moving pro's", but this time around was a little more crazy. We were supposed to move at the end of December, but some things fell through and we got to stay in our rental house for another month. Then we thought we were going to move into an apartment for 3 months while we looked for a house (our first home!!) but then...a week later... we put an offer in on a house that we fell in love with and it was accepted. Yay! We were first time home buyers... for a day that is. Because then... we rescinded our offer due to some unexpected things wrong with the house that we weren't prepared to deal with. SO... now we're moving into a short term lease apartment closer to both of our jobs (with Steve moving locations he was driving an hour and a half and I was driving an hour- each way!) Official move out date is this Saturday :-) <br />
<br />
I'm excited to have a normal 20 min commute and I'm excited for things to slow down a bit so I can start posting regularly again...but I'm not excited to live in a 900 sq ft apartment...Yikes! <br />
<br />
Enjoy the rest of your week! (fingers crossed for more snow...on a weekday that is!)Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12047189779749808846noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8396057049040895340.post-78970737339707361222012-01-16T14:43:00.000-08:002012-01-16T14:43:07.715-08:00winter: montessori styleWell there hasn't been many signs of winter around here... despite the inconsistent cold weather. I've been dreaming, hoping, and praying for some snow!! It's so pretty and peaceful....and being a teacher- I get the added bonus of snow days :-) <br />

Even though it's not snowing outside- it certainly is snowing inside...our classroom that is...<br />

The children have calmed down since the Holidays, but the work itself is still in full swing. The first year of teaching is definitely the hardest! I feel like I'm constantly playing catch up with making new materials/work. I have already started a list of works I want to make/put together during the summer for my room next year.<br />
<br />
This month we are learning about white-tailed deer...and having our school right in the park, our children are lucky enough to see the real thing right outside our windows! <br />
<br />

over break while visiting NYC I got the itch to do something crazy and got the nose pierced! Lovin' it <3Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12047189779749808846noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8396057049040895340.post-53552389227416217792011-12-25T12:16:00.000-08:002011-12-25T12:18:01.200-08:00On the first day of Christmas...Merry Christmas! Steve and I are down in VA visiting his dad and mom. We are enjoying the sunshine and mild temperatures and of course the delicious food! MmmMmm<br />
<br />
I wanted to save this post for Christmas day as it is a "Partridge in a Pear Tree"! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-H1wEQ4NPAO0/TveCuRsqtjI/AAAAAAAAEEY/oeFIi_MA5xI/s1600/DSC08977.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-H1wEQ4NPAO0/TveCuRsqtjI/AAAAAAAAEEY/oeFIi_MA5xI/s400/DSC08977.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<br />
I got a <span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://www.spoolsewing.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/birdpattern1-1.pdf">bird pattern</a></span> from <span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://www.spoolsewing.com/blog/">Spool</a></span> <em>(same place I got my </em><a href="http://www.lookslikespiltmilk.blogspot.com/2011/12/sewing-machine-snuggy.html"><em>sewing machine snuggy pattern</em></a><em>)</em> and decided to use some of my left over pear fabric <em>(from one of my many aprons!)</em> to make a fun ornament for the tree- the tree we don't have up this year :-(<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lGBAPmY8In4/TveC20O5ZeI/AAAAAAAAEEk/hxhsOBGUlKg/s1600/DSC08920.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="302" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lGBAPmY8In4/TveC20O5ZeI/AAAAAAAAEEk/hxhsOBGUlKg/s400/DSC08920.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Z7MMzT0tfUk/TveC4uebDFI/AAAAAAAAEEs/jg6AxcCxfnw/s1600/DSC08918.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Z7MMzT0tfUk/TveC4uebDFI/AAAAAAAAEEs/jg6AxcCxfnw/s400/DSC08918.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>The pattern was pretty simple- although I did get stuck on step 2 when it asked me to sew the 1 side of the belly to the outside fabric but starting at the tail- lining it up was not working out!! But with a little trial and error I got it <em>(this could have just been from my sewing inexperience- you might be just fine!). </em><br />

<br />
But just in case...I took some pictures along the way so you have a visual! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4h6WZPGro9I/TveEDLxfpHI/AAAAAAAAEGY/VWxZNtxi4us/s1600/DSC08934.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4h6WZPGro9I/TveEDLxfpHI/AAAAAAAAEGY/VWxZNtxi4us/s400/DSC08934.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<br />
I braided some craft floss together and made a loop at the top of the bird to hang it. I also had the hubs search out back for the perfect twig for my little birdie to sit on. I hot glued it and hand sewed it on.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UyoKdL3r0Gk/TveDj7kHUeI/AAAAAAAAEF8/khN2tPQNDdM/s1600/DSC08971.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UyoKdL3r0Gk/TveDj7kHUeI/AAAAAAAAEF8/khN2tPQNDdM/s640/DSC08971.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br />

It turned out adorable....even Lincoln loved it!!<br />
<br />
The whole thing took about an hour <em>(from start to finish)...</em>not bad for a quick little project!<br />
<br />
enjoy your xmas day <3Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12047189779749808846noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8396057049040895340.post-34618836757296931542011-12-13T17:43:00.000-08:002011-12-13T17:43:24.466-08:00sewing machine snuggy<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vH3k38KnHI4/Tuf9KPKAbgI/AAAAAAAAECI/UDvQ1BacKcw/s1600/DSC08916.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vH3k38KnHI4/Tuf9KPKAbgI/AAAAAAAAECI/UDvQ1BacKcw/s400/DSC08916.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<br />
The temperatures are definitely beginning to drop and winter is right around the corner. I've broken out my winter coat and all that goes with it...hat, gloves, scarf. It only seemed fitting to make my sewing machine a little something to keep it warm...<br />
<br />
a sewing machine snuggy.<br />
<br />
I first spotted this idea at a new adorable craft shop called <a href="http://behomemade.com/"><span style="font-size: large;">Home Made</span></a>. It's located off of Route 9 down the shore <em>(meaning the Jersey Shore)</em> and it's where my Mom goes for all of her crafting needs. While I was visiting the fam for Thanksgiving we went to visit and I fell in LOVE with everything!! This shop was every craft lovers dream! Of course I had to buy some fabrics because they were all so beautiful- but the only way I could justify it to myself was if I had a project in mind to use them for. As I walked around the shop- eyeing up everything... I spotted these sewing machine covers in the back "studio" <em>(where Julie offers/holds a variety of classes)</em> and asked how she made them. Julie directed me to a friends website called <a href="http://www.spoolsewing.com/blog/"><span style="font-size: large;">Spool</span></a> where I could download the free pattern! <a href="http://www.spoolsewing.com/blog/images/sewingmachinepattern.pdf"><span style="font-size: large;">Check it out!</span></a> Well, there you go... so I bought a few fabrics, came home, and went to work. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kGeVKVf0Cw4/Tuf8cbqHteI/AAAAAAAAEBA/CmjU9eHFHDo/s1600/DSC08891.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kGeVKVf0Cw4/Tuf8cbqHteI/AAAAAAAAEBA/CmjU9eHFHDo/s400/DSC08891.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vHWrqDLxBj4/Tuf9O5P40WI/AAAAAAAAECQ/kwTEL9pFjO8/s1600/DSC08898.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vHWrqDLxBj4/Tuf9O5P40WI/AAAAAAAAECQ/kwTEL9pFjO8/s400/DSC08898.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>The pattern was super easy to follow and the whole project only took me a little over an hour <em>(I would categorize myself as a slow sewer). </em>I got to use my rotary cutter and mat again- which is always fun! I also did not make my own pattern out of paper (as the directions suggested)- I just drew it on my fabric using white fabric chalk. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sLHQcC-YEI8/Tuf8xAQEm9I/AAAAAAAAEBg/qWM9ol5Da9o/s1600/DSC08901.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sLHQcC-YEI8/Tuf8xAQEm9I/AAAAAAAAEBg/qWM9ol5Da9o/s400/DSC08901.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eNoeQX3BewI/Tuf812sVKJI/AAAAAAAAEBo/5yNEym7Vh5U/s1600/DSC08903.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eNoeQX3BewI/Tuf812sVKJI/AAAAAAAAEBo/5yNEym7Vh5U/s400/DSC08903.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oOHsPaSRBcU/Tuf86QBqhYI/AAAAAAAAEBw/WoNFFoycLL8/s1600/DSC08906.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oOHsPaSRBcU/Tuf86QBqhYI/AAAAAAAAEBw/WoNFFoycLL8/s400/DSC08906.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_cq81OYX3Mc/Tuf8__vmlHI/AAAAAAAAEB4/Hr_e4DhK1d0/s1600/DSC08908.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_cq81OYX3Mc/Tuf8__vmlHI/AAAAAAAAEB4/Hr_e4DhK1d0/s400/DSC08908.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<br />
At first, the snuggy seemed a little 'too snug', but with time the fabric has stretched a bit and it fits much better now. <br />
<br />

<br />
This is definitely an improvement from the thin, ripped vinyl cover that originally came with my machine :-)Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12047189779749808846noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8396057049040895340.post-86518846926295679732011-12-08T18:26:00.000-08:002011-12-08T18:26:43.198-08:00snowflake ornament: a gift<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-a27QC8Ka5EQ/TuFufXqQU0I/AAAAAAAAEAQ/ekwg1GoRjMU/s1600/DSC08957.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-a27QC8Ka5EQ/TuFufXqQU0I/AAAAAAAAEAQ/ekwg1GoRjMU/s400/DSC08957.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Hi! I wanted to stop in real quick to share what I've been up to... I have a few projects on my plate right now- but with the Holidays quickly approaching I wouldn't expect anything different. <br />
<br />
The big project right now is making my kids <em>(and by 'my kids' I mean my students)</em> their Christmas <em>(Oops I mean Holiday)</em> presents. As with my <a href="http://lookslikespiltmilk.blogspot.com/2011/10/supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.html"><span style="font-size: large;">Halloween Costume</span></a>- I'm on a 3 year rotation <em>(just like the Montessori way)</em> with my presents to the children. I always want it to be something that I make- but something that will be both, cost and time effective. Last year I crocheted little stocking ornaments...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3iQ1VR01UvY/TuFuVFx94vI/AAAAAAAAEAA/eTYBXwijh50/s1600/DSC07606.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="318" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3iQ1VR01UvY/TuFuVFx94vI/AAAAAAAAEAA/eTYBXwijh50/s400/DSC07606.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<br />
This year I decided to crochet snowflake ornaments! I found the pattern on <a href="http://www.aestheticnest.com/2011/11/crochet-shimmer-snowflake-gift-topper.html"><span style="font-size: large;">Aesthetic Nest</span></a> and thought they were so adorable. She uses them as gift toppers- but I thought they would work out just fine as ornaments. They take about 30 minutes each, and I don't consider myself a fast crochet-er, especially when I have this little one constantly stealing my yarn...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rdvCfEdxO40/TuFuaF12yRI/AAAAAAAAEAI/LQGv4NytFJc/s1600/DSC08864.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rdvCfEdxO40/TuFuaF12yRI/AAAAAAAAEAI/LQGv4NytFJc/s320/DSC08864.JPG" width="240" /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mX1c4syJ_tg/TuFusktRjdI/AAAAAAAAEAo/xx0JhqW3SXU/s1600/lola+in+bag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mX1c4syJ_tg/TuFusktRjdI/AAAAAAAAEAo/xx0JhqW3SXU/s400/lola+in+bag.jpg" width="211" /></a></div><br />
<br />
But they are turning out so adorable!! I can't wait to give them out to my little ones :-) <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-I3e8M3uvYrU/TuFuvULEwWI/AAAAAAAAEAw/KCCaep6F1hg/s1600/Crochet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-I3e8M3uvYrU/TuFuvULEwWI/AAAAAAAAEAw/KCCaep6F1hg/s640/Crochet.jpg" width="428" /></a></div><br />
<br />
I think I may soak them in a glue/water solution with glitter to make them stiff and add a lil sparkle! I'll let you know how that all works out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--MsmMZ62Y4k/TuFulHxEdZI/AAAAAAAAEAY/ZJSA6YQ2cy8/s1600/DSC08958.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--MsmMZ62Y4k/TuFulHxEdZI/AAAAAAAAEAY/ZJSA6YQ2cy8/s400/DSC08958.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<br />

<br />
BUT...being a vegetarian, I rarely get to enjoy it and I MISS IT! This type of soup is almost ALWAYS made with chicken broth and bacon- that is unless you make it yourself. This is the first time I'm making a soup- it always seemed silly to me to make soup from scratch when you can just open a can of soup and heat it up in the microwave for 3 minutes and enjoy. It just seemed like an awful lot of work when a canned soup is just as satisfying. But there's always a first for everything...<br />
<br />
I got this recipe from a friend who got it from <a href="http://www.skinnytaste.com/">Gina's Skinny Recipes</a> Cookbook and we altered it just a bit to make it vegetarian. It's a nice, thick, hearty soup- great for the approaching cold weather! <br />

<li>1 small head of cauliflower, stem removed cut into florets </li>
<li>1 1/2 cups vegetable broth</li>
<li>1 1/2 cups 1% reduced-fat milk </li>
<li>salt and freshly cracked black pepper </li>
<li>1/2 cup light sour cream </li>
<li>10 tbsp reduced-fat shredded sharp cheddar cheese </li>
<li>6 tbsp chopped chives, divided </li>
</ul><br />
<br />
<b>Pierce</b> potatoes with a fork; <b>microwave</b> on high for 5 minutes turn over and microwave another 3 - 5 minutes, until tender. Or if you prefer to use your oven, <b>bake </b>at 400° for 1 hour or until tender. <b>Cool</b>. <b>Peel </b>potatoes.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, <b>steam </b>cauliflower with water in a large covered pot until tender. <b>Drain</b> and return to pot.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cwWjMbFfZzg/TtwQ5Y7LmKI/AAAAAAAAD-4/N8xytZw-n3s/s1600/DSC08872.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cwWjMbFfZzg/TtwQ5Y7LmKI/AAAAAAAAD-4/N8xytZw-n3s/s400/DSC08872.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />

On medium heat, <b>add</b> vegetable broth, milk, potatoes and bring to a boil. Use an immersion blender <em>(if you don't have one...a regular blender will work)</em> to <b>puree</b> until smooth. <b>Add</b> sour cream, half the chives, salt and pepper and <b>cook </b>on low another 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9NAFNWTxl5M/TtwRG9lUCYI/AAAAAAAAD_Q/fTmD_2Z5cM4/s1600/DSC08883.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9NAFNWTxl5M/TtwRG9lUCYI/AAAAAAAAD_Q/fTmD_2Z5cM4/s400/DSC08883.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<b>Remove</b> from heat. <b>Ladle</b> 1 cup soup into each bowl. <b>Top</b> each serving with 2 tbsp cheese and remaining chives.<br />

</div><br />
So my decorating dilemma isn't much of a dilemma anymore...we just found out that we have to move out of our rental house by the end of the month! so no decorating for us :-( Instead of unpacking boxes full of xmas decorations, we will be packing up boxes....boo! <br />
<br />
So instead of decorating my house I decided to decorate my nails! This way I can have the best of all worlds... Each week for the month of December I'm going to paint my nails with a different holiday theme!<br />
<br />
Here's a peek at this weeks nails...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-A-9vTRdqs7Y/Ttl6XqJljKI/AAAAAAAAD-I/BnEJFFPjvZw/s1600/DSC08833.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-A-9vTRdqs7Y/Ttl6XqJljKI/AAAAAAAAD-I/BnEJFFPjvZw/s400/DSC08833.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">first I filed and shaped my nails...</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZsvvteyKPMw/Ttl6cN3M8ZI/AAAAAAAAD-Q/ZMO6l6q1B6c/s1600/DSC08834.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZsvvteyKPMw/Ttl6cN3M8ZI/AAAAAAAAD-Q/ZMO6l6q1B6c/s400/DSC08834.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">then I painted 2 coats of <a href="http://www.target.com/p/Sally-Hansen-Complete-Salon-Manicure-Purple-Pulse/-/A-13332507#?ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001&AFID=Google_PLA_df&LNM=%7C13332507&CPNG=health%20beauty&ci_sku=13332507&ci_gpa=pla&ci_kw=">purple pulse</a> from Sally Hansen Complete Salon- best new nail polish...the wide brush allows you to apply an even coat fast!</div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qQC3VoYblvw/Ttl6gJUxk3I/AAAAAAAAD-Y/g-BKwKoirgI/s1600/DSC08851.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="233" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qQC3VoYblvw/Ttl6gJUxk3I/AAAAAAAAD-Y/g-BKwKoirgI/s400/DSC08851.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">once the purple polish dried, I painted a thick stripe across the tips of each of my nails with sparkle polish. <em>(I was able to paint a pretty even line- but if you have a shaky hand- using a strip of scotch tape helps create a nice straight line)</em></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AfNfzpsXUXs/Ttl6mu1aYfI/AAAAAAAAD-o/hHTnIr4Gwx0/s1600/DSC08854.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="326" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AfNfzpsXUXs/Ttl6mu1aYfI/AAAAAAAAD-o/hHTnIr4Gwx0/s400/DSC08854.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And voila- I'm done. I have fun, funky and colorful nails!! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Check back in a week to see whats next <3</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12047189779749808846noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8396057049040895340.post-48959059950695019382011-11-28T15:11:00.000-08:002011-11-28T15:11:31.499-08:00Christmas dilemma...I LOVE Christmas- but then again who doesn't!?! <br />
<br />
However, I do run into a slight predicament every year- when it comes to decorating... <br />
<br />
...do I go with the traditional Christmas/Holiday colors of red and green... <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hVMR6Zp7nhs/TtQSnilKZpI/AAAAAAAAD8Y/Tm-znlRBuZY/s1600/green+and+red+mantel.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hVMR6Zp7nhs/TtQSnilKZpI/AAAAAAAAD8Y/Tm-znlRBuZY/s640/green+and+red+mantel.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_oSBHv2rytU/TtQSpCT5gXI/AAAAAAAAD8g/sCegR8Qd4-c/s1600/red+and+green+chairs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_oSBHv2rytU/TtQSpCT5gXI/AAAAAAAAD8g/sCegR8Qd4-c/s1600/red+and+green+chairs.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3X2INiPWmWg/TtQSsLKTQDI/AAAAAAAAD8o/pBt_v1pFRIQ/s1600/red.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="245" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3X2INiPWmWg/TtQSsLKTQDI/AAAAAAAAD8o/pBt_v1pFRIQ/s400/red.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<br />
...or do I go with the wintry mix of gold and silver....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tZ40nCPppNo/TtQTBAzEObI/AAAAAAAAD8w/-_Nrs6M0nUc/s1600/gold+place+setting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="333" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tZ40nCPppNo/TtQTBAzEObI/AAAAAAAAD8w/-_Nrs6M0nUc/s400/gold+place+setting.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />

<br />
....or the funky fun colorful array of the blues, purples, and pinks???? <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ywuoaM9Dp5c/TtQTMft89mI/AAAAAAAAD9A/kHraueyw164/s1600/colorful+mantel.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="332" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ywuoaM9Dp5c/TtQTMft89mI/AAAAAAAAD9A/kHraueyw164/s400/colorful+mantel.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

<br />
I wanted to stop in real quick and share with you a little something I made for my secret santa. <br />
<br />
In my family we do 2 secret santas...one where we make a present and one where we buy a present. <br />
<br />
I picked my sister to make for... how fun!! I knew right away what I wanted to make.... <a href="http://www.vanessachristenson.com/2011/09/v-and-co-sewing-with-ruffle-fabric.html">the ruffle tote from V and Co.</a> I saw this tutorial and thought it was so cute!! I ordered the <a href="http://www.rufflefabric.com/">ruffle fabric</a> <em>(in 2 colors!! steel orchid and charcoal cascading ruffle...I plan on making myself a tote and a skirt)</em> and went to the store to get the rest of my 'ingrediants'...I even splurged and <strong><em>FINALLY</em></strong> bought a rotary cutter and a cutting mat! <em>(If you do not have these tools- GO GET THEM... it made cutting so much easier and 10x's faster)</em> <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Tx-CoVY3CMQ/Ts-riKXMbyI/AAAAAAAAD8A/TzCgMOCmwbU/s1600/Sewing1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="151" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Tx-CoVY3CMQ/Ts-riKXMbyI/AAAAAAAAD8A/TzCgMOCmwbU/s400/Sewing1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HJ-_LLbn2O4/Ts-ri7MoIJI/AAAAAAAAD8I/0d0t5SWsj5M/s1600/Sewing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="147" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HJ-_LLbn2O4/Ts-ri7MoIJI/AAAAAAAAD8I/0d0t5SWsj5M/s400/Sewing.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<br />
This tutorial was very easy to follow and my tote came out great!! The ruffle fabric was a little tricky- but definitely manageable...hey... if I can do it- you can do it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-b_5NHhK8JLE/Ts-mZEJ94oI/AAAAAAAAD74/XkykOrTmPkw/s1600/DSC08802.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-b_5NHhK8JLE/Ts-mZEJ94oI/AAAAAAAAD74/XkykOrTmPkw/s400/DSC08802.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tP4ppEscruc/Ts-uEZhjetI/AAAAAAAAD8Q/9VHLzOWxkJ0/s1600/DSC08813.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="293" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tP4ppEscruc/Ts-uEZhjetI/AAAAAAAAD8Q/9VHLzOWxkJ0/s400/DSC08813.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
I also made the flower by following Vanessa's <a href="http://www.vanessachristenson.com/2010/05/tutorial-flower-corsage-for-celebrate.html">flower corsage tutorial.</a> While making the flower I remembered how much I disliked the glue gun- the never ending webs of glue and stick to everything..ugh! But... the end result was worth it!<br />

Hi! I'm sorry I've been MIA- Parent/Teacher conferences consumed my life the last 2 weeks! Phew... am I glad those are over with. They were my first ones I've ever conducted by myself as the lead teacher. Many of my Parents are new to the school <em>(and new to me!),</em> so I didn't really know what to expect from them...<br />
<br />
...needless to say I was a <em>little</em> anxious. However, they all went great and I had a lot of wonderful feedback from all of the parents :-)<br />
<br />
Now here's a peek at whats going on in my room this month...<br />
<br />

</div>Of course we're all about Thanksgiving...but we're also learning about the night sky. I've decided to touch briefly on the sun, moon, planets, and constellations. I didn't have much on these topics so I was busy making new materials and gathering ideas online.<br />
<br />
The first week we talked about the sun, moon, and earth. I made picture card necklaces for each and sung the sun, moon, and earth song in circle. I got the idea from <a href="http://mymontessorijourney.typepad.com/my_montessori_journey/2010/01/earth-moon-sun-song.html">my montessori journey</a> blog. <br />
<br />
The second week we talked about the planets and our solar system. I printed and laminated the planets and introduced a new song...."The Family of the Sun". <em>(I love these interactive songs because it gets the children up and moving and involved and they end up learning a lot more!) *I will update this post with the lyrics of this song*</em><br />
<br />
